Buford Pusser, The Tragedies

On August 12th, 1967, Buford received an early-morning call about a disturbance at the State Line. His wife Pauline insisted on accompanying him. The archived article recounts the ambush on New Hope Road, Pauline’s death, and the injury that changed Buford’s life.

The post also follows the years after the ambush, including Walking Tall, later film attention, his appearance at a Memphis press conference, the McNairy County Fair, and the fatal Corvette crash between Selmer and Adamsville.

The restored article closes by remembering him as a true American hero whose memory remained with those who knew him best.
